Night Market #1

Here's some pics from my first night market trip this summer. You always need an experienced local to lead the way, make sure you hit up the best spots and pass by the weak ones. Props to my cousin because everything I ate was bomb. Check it out:

I forget which night market we went to but it was pretty close to Shimending.

The view from our seats at the selected food stand. They seriously all look the same. For anyone unexperienced, there's a very small chance you'll find the best deals and grub.

Assorted tempura and seafood balls.

Daikon and some crispy stuff.

All the walls were mirrors for some reason.

Fried oyster cakes. The sauce was the centerpiece to all this. Some kind of sweet and spicy sauce. Also, notice the SOY MILK TEA. Such an obvious combo yet this is my first encounter. Brilliant.

FRIED RICE unlike anything I've tasted before. According to my brother, "The beef melts in your mouth."

The highlight of the night. BBQed corn on the cob. Each cob was brushed with sauce and cooked til charred. Then all the charcoal was scraped off the corn ad more sauce was applied. This was repeated 20 times until perfection.

Each corn kernel popped off so easily with a spicy bbqed crunch on the outside and sweet syrupy inside.

Everyone was focused on their corn while I made sure I got some good photos first. That is my dedication to Taiwanyumyum. We also had some fresh watermelon juice. Very refreshing end to a night of fried and spicy goodness. Also an effective hangover cure, for anyone interested.

The next day, my brother left for the mountains to teach English to little kids. Best of luck to him on his trip. He will be missed on Taiwan Yum Yum for the 4 weeks he's gone.
